What happens after you buy a domain
Antihost registers the domain
After the domain purchase is completed, Antihost registers the domain through Namecheap.
This means the domain becomes reserved for your use and can be connected to your WordPress site.
Note
Domain registration and domain activation are not always the same moment. A domain can be purchased successfully but still need some time before all technical settings are fully active.
A DNS zone is created for the domain
After registration, Antihost creates a DNS zone for your domain.
A DNS zone is the technical configuration that tells browsers where your domain should point.
In simple terms, DNS is what connects your domain name to the server where your website is hosted.
DNS records are added automatically
Antihost automatically adds the required DNS records through PowerDNS.
These records connect your domain to the correct WordPress hosting environment.
You do not need to manually create A records, CNAME records, or other basic DNS records for the initial setup.
What this means
If the domain was purchased through Antihost, the standard DNS setup is handled automatically. Manual DNS configuration is usually only needed when you use an external domain or custom DNS setup.
The domain is connected to your WordPress instance
After the DNS records are created, Antihost connects the domain to your WordPress instance.
Your WordPress instance is the WordPress environment created for your hosting plan.
Once the domain is attached to the instance, the site starts preparing to open through the new domain.
SSL setup starts
After the domain is connected, Antihost starts or checks SSL setup.
SSL is what allows your site to open securely over HTTPS.
Until SSL is fully issued and applied, your browser may temporarily show a warning or open the site without HTTPS.
Important
SSL can only work correctly after DNS points to the right server. If DNS is still propagating, SSL may not be ready yet.
What you need to do
Complete the onboarding flow
In most cases, you only need to complete the onboarding flow after purchasing your WordPress hosting plan.
During onboarding, you choose or buy the domain, select the server location, and create your WordPress account.
After that, Antihost handles the domain connection process automatically.
Wait for DNS and SSL to apply
After the setup is completed, wait while DNS and SSL changes are applied.
This process may take some time.
During this period, your domain may:
- not open yet;
- open without HTTPS;
- show an SSL warning;
- open inconsistently from different networks;
- still show an old or empty page.
Good to know
DNS changes do not update everywhere at the same time. One user may already see the new site, while another may still see the old state for some time.
Check the domain later
If the domain does not work immediately, wait and check again later.
You can also open the site using the temporary domain if it is available. This lets you continue working on the WordPress site while the final domain is still being applied.
Why the domain may not work immediately
DNS propagation takes time
DNS propagation is the process of updating domain records across different networks and DNS providers.
Even if Antihost configured everything correctly, external DNS systems may still need time to recognize the new records.
This is why the domain may not start working instantly.
SSL may not be ready yet
SSL setup depends on the domain pointing to the correct server.
If DNS has not fully propagated yet, SSL validation may still be in progress.
During this time, the site may temporarily show:
- “Not secure” warning;
- HTTPS error;
- certificate warning;
- browser privacy warning.
What this means
A temporary SSL warning right after setup does not always mean the setup is broken. It can mean SSL is still being issued or applied.
Browser or network cache may show an old state
Sometimes the domain is already configured correctly, but your browser, internet provider, or local DNS cache still shows the previous state.
This can make it look like the domain is not working, even when the setup is already active elsewhere.
The site may still be finishing setup
In some cases, the WordPress instance, domain binding, or SSL check may still be completing in the background.
If setup was just finished, give the system time to complete the full process.
When it becomes a problem

It becomes a problem if the domain still does not work after enough time has passed for DNS and SSL setup.
Contact Antihost support if:
- the domain does not open after DNS propagation time;
- the domain points to the wrong site;
- SSL still shows an error after setup should be complete;
- the site opens on the temporary domain but not on the purchased domain;
- the domain was purchased, but does not appear connected to your WordPress instance;
- onboarding was completed, but the domain setup did not start;
- you see a repeated error in the Antihost panel.
